COURSE PATHWAYS

PEARSON BTEC LEVEL THREE
Four terms, 14 weeks each with a Total of 18 Units covered. Term 1&2 each covers 5 Units; Term 3&4
each covers 4 Units. Achieved accreditation Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design.
Learners do not get an exemption from first year Foundation at University
PEARSON BTEC LEVEL FOUR
Two terms, 14 weeks each with a Total of 8 Units covered. Term 1&2 each covers four (4) Units.
Learners achieve a Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate in Art & Design
PEARSON BTEC LEVEL FIVE
Two terms, 14 weeks each with a Total of 6 Units covered. Term 1&2 each covers three (3) Units.
Learners Achieve a Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma in Art and Design and an exemption from first
year Foundation at the discretion of the university’s enrolment requirements.

 

Online Short Couse in Graphic Design
Rendering techniques
This is a course which exposes the trainee to techniques used in creating value, tone, texture
and contrast on a surface for the purpose of visual or graphic communication using dry or wet
media. The trainee shall be exposed to pencils, paints and ink as media used in rendering on
paper, board for a duration of 12 weeks
Illustration in publications
This 12-week course introduces the trainee to methods and techniques used in creating visual
images applied on magazines, newspapers and books. Illustrations are necessary in publications
for they give meaning and add aesthetics to written matter.
Illustration in advertising
The course introduces the trainee to approaches in creating, customizing or enhancing visual
images applied on marketing and promotion material. Illustrations are an integral part of
effective advertising media. Duration 12 weeks.
Corporate identity design
This is a course that introduces the trainee to principles/elements of branding and corporate
image development. The trainee will explore various approaches and strategies in the design
and positioning of a strong brand/business image. Duration 8 weeks.
Typography design
This 8-week course introduces trainees to the design, selection and effective application of
letterforms on visual communication media. The trainee will learn letter construction and the
symbolism associated with each font and type family.

Adobe in design
This is a 12-week short course in which the learner gains skills in using computer generated
designs using Adobe InDesign. The learner gains skills in designing and publishing multipage
documents containing text, vector artwork, and images. The learners will come up with digital
and printed material such as stationery, resumes, pamphlets, catalogs, brochures interactive
digital publications, books, magazines etc. This course has not prerequisite.
Adobe illustrator
Adobe Illustrator offers further support to graphic designers who have already learned
InDesign. However, Adobe illustrator lets learners create precise, editable vector graphics that
can be used in Adobe InDesign. The 12-week course will give leaners the opportunity to design
logos, icons, typography (arranged letters and text) and other illustrations that can be used on a
business card, flyer, form or billboard. This course has not prerequisite.
Adobe Photoshop
The Adobe Photoshop short course completes the trio of design software offered for graphic
design enthusiasts. This short course also has a 12-week duration and specializes in working
with pixel-based images e.g. photographs designed for print, web, and mobile apps. The learner
will gain skills in for example correcting image exposure and color balance, cropping and
straightening images, altering colors in photographs, removing blemishes from portraits and
combining multiple images into a new scene. Learners will apply these skills to image-heavy
flyers, posters and web designs. This course has not prerequisite.
Graffiti 1
This is a course that introduces the trainee to stylized application of type, illustrations and
colour on fixed surfaces using spray paint technique. It is a popular technique of wall branding
for decorative/ aesthetic purpose. Duration 6 weeks
Graffiti 2
These are advanced techniques in graffiti art that introduces the trainee to stylized application
of type, illustrations and colour on fixed surfaces using spray paint technique. Besides wall
branding, the trainee is introduced to vehicle/automobile branding for decorative/ aesthetic
purpose. Duration 6 weeks

Graffiti 3
These are further techniques in graffiti art that introduces the trainee to stylized application of
type, illustrations and colour on fixed surfaces using spray paint technique. Besides wall and

vehicle branding, the trainee is introduced to graffiti application on graphic design media for
decorative/ aesthetic purpose e.g. publications and advertisements. Duration 6 weeks
